Factory-made hair is generally collected in China or India and the hair is often collected in bulk lots, then mass-produced.  It can easily get tangled so the way to treat it is chemically altering the hair and applying a coating.  While they might be a bit cheaper in the beginning, in the long term they cost you more, both money-wise, and time-wise with the hassle of constantly replacing them.

Many factory-made hair extensions are chemically styled or blended with artificial hair, it can be difficult to find an option that blends perfectly with your locks. 

With this type of product, it was most likely black hair which has had a lot of bleaching to create other shades so even if you think it looks like a perfect match in the packet it generally goes downhill over a period of weeks or a couple of months.
